Postwar children

Photographs of the agency Puck, Berlin 1945 - 1948

28 September - 21 November 1995 / Photo Gallery

[Children in ruins] New and unknown photographs from the archives of the photographic service of the Bundespresseamt (Press and Information Office of the Federal Government of Germany) show the daily life of children in postwar Berlin. The pictures once belonged to the estate of the agency Puck, the first Berlin photographic agency after World War II. It was founded and headed by Werner Konetzky, who documented together with other photographers the life in the destroyed city of Berlin between 1945 and 1948. The exhibition focuses on children and teenagers born and raised during the "Third Reich" -- young people who lived through the nights of bombing in Berlin and survived the war.

The cooperation between the German Historical Museum and the Bundespresseamt is planned to be continued in order to make further unknown material accessible to the public.

The exhibition is shown in the Photo Gallery of the DHM. A 32-page catalog including 36 photographs is available for the price of DM 7,50 at the desk in the entrance hall.
