Duplessi-Bertaux created an allegory of the French revolution. "Veritas", hovering in the air, reflects with her implement, a mirror, the light of the Enlightenment. Symbolically buried on a catafalque are the insignia of the old powers: the Royal house, the aristocracy, and the clergy. In the foreground they are destroyed by Chronos. On the left side the Bastille is shown.
