This painting is regarded as an outstanding example of proletariat
revolutionary artwork. Workmen and women of different nationalities
stand together in line, and sing "The International".
Griebel renounces customary communist symbolism, for an idealized
portrayal of the proletariat of the world, striding ahead toward
victory. For the painter, only international solidarity, transgressing
differences of party and nation, can triumph over current injustices.
