In the 19th century, Friedrich the Great was so popular that not only a number of large monuments were erected but also a tremendous amount of small statues and busts were produced for the sideboard at home by foundries and porcelain manufactories. Friedrich was considered to be a shining example, since he had been able to unite seemingly contradictory qualities such as discipline, the spirit of sacrifice, enlightenment, social responsibility, and artistic talent.
