As the daughter of the English monarch King Jacob II, Anne Stuart supported her brother-in-law William III of Orange in the Glorious Revolution 1688/89 against her own father. She became queen after William's death in March 1702. Later, she appointed the Duke of Marlborough as Commander in Chief of the British troops and send him to the War of the Spanish Succession, where he gained a number of victories against France. Since 1683 she had been married to Prince Georg of Denmark.
