William II changed from erruptions of anglophile feelings to arrogant appearances and back, such as in the Daily Telegraph affair of 1906. He thus placed himself ever more in the centre of British criticism. In 1911 Lloyd George remarked that the „most important feature” in international relations was the „German-British antagonism”.
