Reflections on an exhibition

In the era known to European cultural history as the Victorian, the latter part of which is called the "Wilhelminische" in Germany after Emperor Wilhelm (William) II, Great Britain and Germany were closely linked by dynastic relations. The most important kinship existed between the two personalities who gave their names to this period: Queen Victoria was the grandmother of the last German Emperor William II (1888-1918), offspring of the marriage between the Queen's eldest daughter Victoria, called Vicky, and Prince Frederick William, who later became Emperor Frederick III of Germany.
