Description: Promotion Atlantique (School for Colonels) A portion of the historic Ecole Militaire has been turned into a “school for colonels” to train international staff officers for NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Officers and senior civil servants from all the NATO countries (then 14) are trained in the special skills required to build a coordinated defense force out of national armies. Language ability and a knack for understanding other nations’ ways of doing business are every bit as important as mastery of logistics and tactics. The camera follows a class on its orientation trip to NATO airfields, ports and military command centers in the U.K., Norway, Holland and the French Zone of Germany. An informative look at the extraordinary efforts needed to make NATO effective. Marshall Plan Filmography © 2002 Linda R. Christenson
