Criticism – Protest – Accusation
Social, political and economic aberrations, but also the endangerment of the natural fundaments of life are topics that young people are concerned about. The photographers do not remain impartial toward these subjects, but deliberately choose striking and provocative motifs that show their genuine commitment.
A recurrent motif since the 1960s is the criticism of excessive industrialization and increasing pollution of the environment. The young people also question the constant false promises of mass consumption and point out such negative consequences as fatigue and excessive demands on the individual. Another topic that is often treated is the confrontation with xenophobia and intolerance.
The young photographers pinpoint not only social and environmental grievances, but also the possibilities afforded by mobilizing the younger generation. By demonstrating against abuses young people show their readiness to make changes and their belief in shaping their own future. Every new generation finds itself confronted with social problems and developments against which they want to take a stand. Many young people share a pronounced awareness of justice and environment as well as the conviction that it pays to fight for a world worth living in.
