Karl Hofer
Cassandra, 1936

The Trojan seer Cassandra is the title figure of the exhibition. In the war of the Greeks against Troy she warned the Trojans in vain of the threatening downfall of the city. Karl Hofer’s Cassandra is one of a number of prophets, admonishers and warners in his oeuvre. These figures appeared in his work especially often after the takeover of power by the National Socialists in 1933.
