Ludwig Meidner
Ludwig Meidner’s Apocalyptic Scene belongs to a whole group of depictions of destruction and downfall that Meidner painted before the First World War. Starting with his experience of the big city, the artist transformed his edgy cityscapes into scenarios of the end of the world. He was further inspired by the works of Friedrich Nietzsche as well as the prophetic books of Isaiah and Jeremiah.
