In the archives of Germany's public television broadcasters lies a little-known treasure: feature films by prominent directors and/or screenwriters, mainly made in the 1960s and 1970s, when the broadcasting corporations were both a training ground and laboratory for young filmmakers. These are pure TV productions, usually only shown on television, but seen by an audience of millions.

The series Aus dem Fernseharchiv, initiated and co-curated by Jan Gympel, aims to draw attention to this largely forgotten part of German film history, presenting one feature film from the television collection of the Deutsche Kinemathek every month.
