The
godless painter from Nuremberg
It
is possible to think Prechtls' art as the continuation of a specific
art tradition in Nuremberg which reaches back to the late Middle Ages.
There were three artists in medieval Nuremberg who became wellknown
as the godless painters. These artists, called Sebald
and Barthel Beham and Georg Pencz, were expelled by the council during
the reformation and Peasants war because of their divergent
beliefs.
Prechtl seeing himself as an antiauthoritarian Denkmaler
continues this tradition of self-confident, independent thinking in
