The subject of the research project in cooperation with the German Lost Art Foundation as part of the basic research on institutional cultural property movements in the GDR is the role of the Institute for Marxism-Leninism (IML). The main focus of the completed study is on acquisition and transfer strategies in the network of cultural property transfers.

The Institute for Marxism and Leninism at the Central Committee (ZK) of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) was the leading academic institution for Marxist-orientated historical research in the GDR. The Institute had its own collection, mainly books and other printed materials, but also accepted a large number of objects of a museum nature, which were often passed on to the Museum of German History (MfDG).
