From the Art Chamber to the Museum – an engraved ostrich egg

The Deutsches Historisches Museum has acquired a rare ostrich egg with engraved figurative scenes from the early 17th century for the Applied Art collection. Also recently purchased was the illustrated travelogue by the Dutch traveller and explorer Jan Huygen van Linschoten from 1596, which provided the motif. Both acquisitions were financed through the generous support of the DHM Museum Association. Wolfgang Cortjaens, head of the Applied Art and Graphics Collection, and Brigitte Reineke, head of Central Documentation, tell more about the objects in the film.
