What would film history be without the many small archives and private collections? In our ongoing series Collect Films! in June, Roman Avianus from Berlin will give us an insight into his collection. He is the managing director of the camera rental company 25p in Prenzlauer Berg, a producer and, since his youth, a collector of everything to do with film: posters, photos, film technology and, of course, analog film prints in Super8, 16mm and 35mm. His treasures include a large collection of Scopitone music films in 16mm format, which were played in bars between the 1950s and 1970s in a kind of jukebox with a monitor. His collection of 35mm films includes German dubbed versions of European film classics from Bergman to Visconti, which come from the defunct archive of the Lupe film distribution company founded by Walter Kirchner in 1976. The Lupe archive also contains music films featuring the Beatles and The Who, as well as concert films by Cream and Pink Floyd. In addition to countless trailers and chance finds, Roman Avianus also owns treasures of Canadian film that were previously distributed by the Canadian Embassy. For the Zeughauskino, he has sifted through his collection and is showing popular and experimental films, road movies and comedies, jazz and bear films. (Philipp Stiasny)
