Object database

The German Historical Museum operates the most extensive object data base of all museums in Germany, and it is available on the Internet. The museum registers and manages its collections through this data base. It documents technical data on the objects, prepares restoration protocols and processes inter-museum loans. The data base currently comprises around 600,000 objects and provides a digital photo for around 70 percent of these objects.

The stocks of the museum can be researched worldwide by means of the online database. Due to the protection of copyrights and property rights a number of object photos cannot be shown online, but can be acquired subject to charge through the museum's picture archive.
