Guided Tour “On Displaying Violence: First Exhibitions on the Nazi Occupation in Europe, 1945-1948”
- Adults
- Groups (up to 25 person, plus admission) 75.00 €, Groups (up to 10 person, plus admission) 30.00 €
The dialogical tour leads through all the exhibition rooms and presents various objects that recall the violent rule of the Germans in the countries they occupied. Between 1945 and 1948, exhibitions were organised in London, Paris, Warsaw, Liberec and Bergen-Belsen that presented evidence of the National Socialist crimes – the first forms of the public coming to terms with this injustice. The tour uses such examples as the presentation of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, the selection of objects in Bergen-Belsen or the partial reconstruction of the Natzweiler-Struthof concentration camp to depict the different approaches of the early exhibitions. What aims did the production of such stagings have? What role did the visual presentations play in forming a collective memory?
In dialogue with the expert tour guides, visitors can discuss and reflect on the mechanisms of conveying the recent wartime history in the immediate postwar period. If desired, the tour can focus on special interests of the group.
