Did a certain historical event have to occur in exactly the way it did or could it have happened differently? Is history predetermined or always an open process?

Together with our educational experts, students will discuss key historical events in German History in the 19th and 20th centuries. Students will be confronted with alternative courses of these historical events, which, for various reasons, did not become reality. By working with documents, letters, paintings and other original objects from the exhibition, students will gain insights into the political disputes and decision-making at decisive moments in German history. This unusual perspective gives the opportunity to sharpen their awareness of the fundamental openness of history. Multisensory interventions invite visitors to find individual ways of accessing the different topics of the exhibition.
