All over now!? – The end of World War II in Germany and Europe

With Germany's unconditional surrender, the Second World War ended in Europe on 8 May 1945. The reactions and perspectives of Germans to the event were varied: relief, grief, uncertainty, fear. The short guided tour through the exhibition "Roads not Taken" takes a special look at the end of the war, its consequences and possible alternatives in the political and social development of Germany after 1945. Was the division of Germany inevitable? What influence would an alternative end of the war have had on the memory of National Socialist dictatorship and crimes? The guided tour takes up these and other questions and presents a selection of corresponding exhibition rooms and objects.
